Thank you for meeting Friday to discuss your student's academic, social, and spiritual needs. You are blessed with children who are excited about learning and have a special relationship with God. This allows me to facilitate deeper connections with truth and knowledge while supporting the growth of academic skills.
Here is what they will be learning this week.
Religion: Students are learning about how God calls us to love unselfishly. Students are required to complete 3 hours of community service each 9 weeks. A grade will be taken in religion for this required participation. They will be given a community service sheet that should be completed and signed by a parent or another adult. On the back of this sheet they must explain what they learned from this work experience.
Math: Students will complete Chapter 5 Division this week and be assessed on their knowledge Thursday. They will have homework on Monday and Tuesday this week in their Dimensions workbook.
Language Arts & Reading: Students will read chapter 2 from "The Jungle Book," by Rudyard Kipling. They will take notes and discuss the author's purpose determining the plot and rising action. Students are practicing writing descriptive paragraphs using figurative language. They will have a spelling test on Friday.
Students are required to read 20 minutes each night and take the AR tests online at school upon completion of each book read. A 9 weeks participation grade is taken for each student.
Science: Students will study how electrical energy produces light and thermal energy. They will use their interactive notebooks to create vocabulary, design scientific investigations, and learn that science and engineering are ongoing processes. They will complete an investigation to design and test a circuit that will produce energy to make a light bulb light.
History: Students will begin learning about "The Age of Queen Elizabeth" from "Stories of Civilization" and take notes in their history journals. Students will be assessed on their knowledge on Friday, October 24th.
I welcome your communication with me, and want you to take any opportunity to set conference times or email. My teacher conference times this year are Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 1:20-2:20. I can certainly accommodate an after school conference when necessary due to conflicting work schedules.
Thank you for giving me the blessing of your children in our classroom this school year.
