Hello 3rd Grade Parents, Guardians, and Family, 

1. PSIA Academic event is tomorrow, Mar 7th. Each family that has a student participating should have received a schedule of times for their respective category. Please ensure they arrive 45 minutes prior to the event. They have been working hard to prepare. Have them wear regular cloths. This means nothing with SMCS logos on it. Get a good nights sleep. Avoid junk food, and drink plenty of water. Have then use the restroom right before they leave for their event. Once they enter the testing room they can not leave. If they do, their test is scored once they leave and they can NOT reenter the room.

2. March 16th - 20th is SPRING BREAK. NO SCHOOL THIS WEEK. 

3. Our LAST standardized assessments (MAP) are scheduled to begin March 30 - April 3. These results will give teachers a good idea where our students are before they venture off to the next grade level AND provide us with valuable information on areas to focus on over the summer and the beginning of next school year.
    These are assessments and NOT TESTS. Tests are given to evaluate what a student has been taught, see a skill they have learned, or check a learned knowledge level. An assessment is to see areas for improvement. Assessments are NOT graded. They identify level of abilities, capabilities, and focus areas. 
    We have found that when a student is NOT stressed about these assessments, they have a full nights sleep, and arrive to school early, they are far more likely to do well and apply their abilities to their fullest. When they don't try their best, we get inaccurate results. When they do give their best, teachers and students excel and utilize their learning time MUCH better.
